Culture in Care Podcast

Join Tessa and Deb from FCAV for our latest podcast – Culture in Care.

This podcasts looks at How does a child or young person in care gain strength being connected to their culture and how do we maintain these connections” with guests Tarlisha, a young person who recently left care and Uncle Trevor Gallagher, a proud Gunditjmara man who supports community in the Darebin area.

Tarlisha is exploring her Aboriginal heritage having learning of her ancestry at age 15.  She is slowly trying to find out more as her own mother was in care from the age of 12 in NSW and lost all connection to her birth family.

Uncle Trevor is an Elder and teaches Aboriginal traditions in the inner Melbourne parklands to the community and supports Aboriginal young people at Santa Maria College,  a secondary school where he first met Tarlisha and provided education and support to her.  Both talk of what helps children and young people to really connect and gain strength from their culture.
