A free learning and development program for carers
Carer Kafe is a program where carers can gather with like-minded people and gain practical knowledge to manage challenges with a fresh perspective.
It’s a welcoming space for home-based carers of children and young people in Victoria to come together, share, yarn and grow their confidence in caring for future generations.
Since April 2017, Carer Kafe has provided free learning and development opportunities for Victorian kinship, permanent and accredited foster carers. Online and in person sessions are delivered by specialists across a broad range of topics to support carers in their vital role.
Mission Statement
To provide accessible, high-quality, relevant, and culturally safe learning and development activities and resources that equip Victorian home-based carers with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake their critical caring role.
Carer Kafe Management
Carer Kafe is hosted by three agencies working in partnership: The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, Kinship Carers Victoria and Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency and funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. It is supported by a Governance Group including the host agencies, Foster Care Association of Victoria, Permanent Care and Adoptive Families and Victorian Aboriginal Children and Young People’s Alliance
Walking together, learning together, sharing together
This artwork represents the networking of our community in caring for Koorie kids. The walking together footprints that are in all colours of country in the background with the stepping stones with fine line work representing the learning together with strength and endurance and learning for better cultural understanding and development and growth. The icons representing the history, health, journey, self-caring, gathering, wellbeing, connection are in the networking circles with the connecting journey pathways that represent the importance of sharing each other’s journey. The colours represent the communities and country that everyone walks, learns and shares on.
Gilbruk with respect,
Cassie
