2021 Expression of Interest Process

CARER LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

2021 Expression of Interest (EOI) process - Update 4/01/2021

Carer KaFÉ would like to provide an update for the 2021 Expression of Interest program for enhancing the learning and development of Foster and Kinship carers across Victoria.

The flow-on effects of Covid-19 has impacted our ability to convene a panel in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services to review any submissions in late December 2020.

Therefore we will be extending the closing date for submissions until 31/01/2020 with a view of a panel occurring in mid-February 2021.

Carer KaFÉ is confident this delay will have a limited impact on the 2021 training calendar for both carers and providers as there is a backlog (due to a significant delay in operations from March to July 2020 caused by Covid-19) of approved sessions from the 2020 EOI process.

In January 2021, the Carer KaFÉ team will liaise with training providers to reschedule these sessions for January through to March 2021 and implement carer promotion to raise awareness and grow attendance.

We will also be conducting an EO11I process for host agencies in March 2021. Documentation for host agencies to make an application will be available on our website soon. Please contact us should you have any further

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to a prosperous and rewarding training and educational environment next year.

2021 Expression of Interest

Carer KaFÉ is inviting expressions of interest to provide high-quality, relevant training which enhances learning and development of our valuable Statutory Kinship Carers and Accredited Foster Carers as they care for Victoria’s vulnerable children and young people.

About Carer KaFÉ

Carer KaFÉ, launched in April 2017, provides free learning and development opportunities for foster and kinship carers throughout Victoria.

We collaborate and draw on the expertise of passionate trainers to offer carers superior, research-based training sessions. Whether a half or full workshop, online sessions or a yarning circle, we welcome an innovative approach to the delivery of our training.

What are we looking for?

Through our training, we aim to provide attendees with practical, hands-on tools that they can implement in their roles as carers.

Carer KaFÉ completed a review of the many hundreds of evaluation forms where carers provided feedback on what other topics they would like to see covered in training.  The key themes are shown below with an approximate proportion to help inform what carers seek from Carer KaFÉ sessions in 2021.

  • Behaviour / Trauma (understanding / responding to challenging behaviours / strategies)  Approximately 35%
  • Carer well-being (self-care, dealing with own emotions) Approximately 20%
  • Aboriginal culture (to better support Aboriginal children/ young people in their care) Approximately 15%
  • Mental Health (anxiety / depression / suicidal thoughts) Approximately 15%

Please note this is by no means an exhaustive list and Carer KaFÉ is open to receiving proposals for any type of training that is relevant to the caring role - in fact, we encourage you to be as creative as you like. It is also important to take into consideration the Carer KaFÉ training framework and learning outcomes.

Applications

Carer KaFÉ is looking to offer a range of learning and development opportunities to meet the diverse needs of carers including:

  • Face-to-face training (Victorian metro / regional locations)
  • Online training (sessions delivered via Zoom etc, webinars, podcasts)
  • Camps, retreats, cultural days

The 2021 Carer KaFÉ EOI process has been severely impacted by Covid-19 which forced the cessation of many 2020 approved face to face sessions.  We currently have many of these sessions (now adapted for online delivery) rescheduled into February 2021.  Thus, the approach for 2021 EOI will involve 2 rounds of submission:

Round 1 – Submission of applications:

All applications must be submitted by Friday 4th December 2020 at 11:59pm.

Applications are then reviewed by an independent panel and decisions will be communicated to all applicants by end of business, Friday 18th December 2020.

Round 2 – Submission of applications:

All applications must be submitted by Friday 8th January 2021 at 11:59pm.

Applications are then reviewed by an independent panel and decisions will be communicated to all applicants by end of business, Friday 29th January 2021.

NB: You are welcome to submit applications for multiple training sessions. Information and a portal for uploading applications will be available next week - please check back for this update.
