Travelling the Road to Care - Induction for New Foster Carers (Bundoora)
FCAV will provide practical tips and advice that carers don’t learn in the carer training
This workshop will cover issues relating to:
- Navigating the system: case plans & care teams
- Compassion fatigue & looking after yourself
- Connecting to external supports
- Engaging with biological families
- How to create a safe environment
- Working with your agency
- Benefits of respite
- Supporting your biological children
- Saying goodbye
- Connecting to culture
Elder, Uncle Trevor Gallagher, will be doing a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. Trevor will talk about his experience growing up and being removed with the Stolen Generation and what helped him to get through.
Experienced carer, Kerryn, will be talking about what has helped her and her husband to continue caring for 38 years.
Carers will come away with more confidence and a better understanding of the system and what they can incorporate into their daily care of foster children.
Please note that Carer KaFÉ can cover the cost of babysitting while you attend a Carer KaFÉ training session. You need to organise for an approved babysitter via your agency. This needs to be organised and approved by Carer KaFÉ at least one week prior to the training session.
