Caring for LGBTQ Young People with Professor Damien W. Riggs

Awareness of the needs of LGBTQ young people in care is essential to providing inclusive and affirming care.

This session will address the topic of LGBTQ young people in care through three key areas:

  • An overview of key terminology and concepts.
  • An overview of what the research tells us about supporting LGBTQ young people in care.
  • Outline key tools and strategies for supporting LGBTQ young people in care.

The session will include ample time for questions from the audience.

Presented by: Professor Damien W. Riggs

Damien Riggs is a professor in psychology at Flinders University and a psychotherapist who specialises in working with trans young people. He is the author of over 200 publications including Working with Transgender Young People and Their Families.

Please note that Carer KaFÉ can cover the cost of babysitting while you attend a Carer KaFÉ training session.  You need to organise for an approved babysitter via your agency.  This needs to be organised and approved by Carer KaFÉ at least one week prior to the training session.
