Building respectful relationships with Aboriginal community members as a carer

(Second in a series of 3 yarning spaces. Carers are welcome to register for 1, 2 or 3 sessions. Other sessions are held on 2 May and 16 May.)

Date: Thursday 9 May 2024

Time: 8pm - 9pm

Location: Zoom online

As a foster carer of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person, you can support them in having a nurturing and positive life experience that is culturally, socially, and emotionally safe.

Join with AJ Williams-Tchen, a proud Wiradjuri / Wotjobulak Social Worker, Nurse & Youth Worker, Director of Girraway Ganyi Consultancy, nominee for Australian of the Year Victoria 2024 and winner of the Social Worker of the Year 2023 (Allied Health Awards) and Aboriginal Social Worker of the Year 2021 (AASW Excellence Awards) as he discusses how carers can build respectful relationships with Aboriginal community members and why this is essential for providing Aboriginal children and young people with a culturally safe home and experience of living in out of home care.

A 20-minute presentation followed by 40 minutes of yarning, facilitated by AJ.
